HereAfter devastating flood damage to the scenic U Iowa arts building on the banks of the Iowa River, the university is searching for a quick infusion of cash to make needed repairs. Unfortunately, one such option is selling Pollack's
Mural that I consider to be a jewel in the heart of the Midwest. I think that the University of Iowa needs to wake up and realize that there are only so many opportunities that a school in the heartland will have to bump elbows with the greater cultural scene. How often, really, do you see University of Iowa in Art Forum magazine? I know that financial issues can often force difficult decisions, but hopefully this won't be that sort of situation.
Being a student in Iowa, I often ventured to the University of Iowa to study the surprisingly breathtaking collection of modern art. The Pollack is truly the pièce de résistance of the gallery. Without it there would just be an empty wall and saddened art crowd.
