The Republicans are Coming!

Three days after the Republicans took the house, party leaders are already beating the war drums and the first target is health care.  Boehner has made several statements that he wants to replace what passed with "common sense legislation."

The only problem being that what Republicans see as "common sense" isn't very common sense to senate Democrats or the President.

What upsets me about the whole thing isn't that the Republicans oppose the ideology put forth by Affordable Care Act, but that somehow repealing this legislation will be one of the big ways to reduce "wasteful government spending."

Before last year, the Affordable Care Act didn't exist.  It in no way contributed to the fall of the financial sector or the bust housing bubble.  Job loss has nothing to do with it.  But somehow this is the Republican's priority.  Why?  I have no idea.  Repealing this will in no way improve the current economic situation or atone for the sins of the past decade.

I love the idea that there's a split legislative branch.  It means that Republicans and Democrats have to compromise to pass legislation.  What I don't love is the idea that two parties will spend the next two years slinging mud at one another until the next election cycle.

Ugh, politics.
